Glow in the Park 2009 View Comments

I’ve never been to Glow in the Park before, but the pictures always look so amazing and now we live so close to Forest Park!  Since neither of us gets home from work until after 5:30pm, we headed over to Llywelyn’s in the Central West End around 6:30pm.  After a beer and some sandwiches we went to the Glow.

Let me give you this piece of advice that I wish I had known.  ARRIVE EARLY! It was so crowded!  We went down Lindell at a snail’s pace before turning down Union and parking a ways down on Waterman.  We had to walk almost a mile to central fields!  Not that I was complaining too much, we needed to burn off some of that dinner!  We finally arrived at the Glow (I was so happy we didn’t bring a dog or have a baby) a little before 8pm.  There were so many people crammed around the balloons that it was hard to get through the crowd.  We visited the cool balloons and then made our way to the outskirts of the field.  It was much nicer from outside the crowded balloon area that I wish we would have just stayed there the whole time.  We didn’t stick around for the fireworks at 9pm.

My conclusion: Arrive WAY early and pack a picnic dinner (don’t forget the wine!).  Pop a squat on the outskirts of the Glow and watch the balloons and fireworks from there. @meghoulihan said the crowd was double what it was last year (maybe due to the nice weather) but I would still get there early to reserve your spot and avoid the hassle of parking.

My camera died after a few pictures so this is all you get:
