Dive Bars and Dogs View Comments
This weekend was a lot of fun even though we didn’t really do much in South City St. Louis. On Friday night Zack and I went to our old West County hang out. Yes, we used to live in West County. The Brewhouse quickly became one of our favorite bars because we could walk there from our apartment. Now we only go once a month or so to see the regulars and reminisce about old times. It’s also a good place to play pool if you like to challenge people on the table.
On Sunday we took Ellis to the 13th Annual Spirit of St Louis Canine Games, which took place at Purina Farms. It was a lot of fun but next time I’ll make sure to get there earlier. We didn’t show up until about 2pm (it ended at 4pm) and everyone was trying to use up the last of their event tickets. We ended up waiting in line for the agility course for 20 minutes! When Ellis finally got to check it out, he did great! Weaved through the poles like a pro and jumped over the hurdles. He even did the scary balance beam and the teeter totter! He hesitated going through the tunnel but once I said “go find it” he was curious and headed in to find the treat. There were some other cool events there but we didn’t have much time to check them out because they closed up shop at 3:30pm. It was a fun little outing for Ellis though and got us out of the house on a beautiful Sunday!
After bringing Ellis back home we went to Blackthorn for pizza. If you haven’t been there yet, try it! It’s a small little place in Tower Grove South on the corner of Spring and Wyoming. They don’t open until 5pm on Sundays so you can get there right when they open (or even order ahead) so you don’t have to wait over an hour for your pizza. The Chicago deep dish is so freaking good and a small 10″ pie is perfect (sometimes too much) for the two of us. They layer the toppings in so that in one bite you get dough, sauce, toppings, cheese, another layer of dough and then more toppings, sauce, and cheese. Next time I’ll take a picture!
If you did something in South City this past weekend and you’d like to write about it, let me know! Shoot me an email at southcitystl [at] gmail.com and I’ll post it up on the website.
